Joseph De Sciose is an award-winning photographer whose images have been extensively featured in books, magazines and other print media. From 2003 to 2008, Joe was a Senior Staff Photographer at Southern Living Magazine. During his tenure there, he was responsible for producing high-quality photography for a wide range of editorial subject matter including travel, gardens and feature articles.In addition to being extensively published in Southern Living Magazine, Joe’s images have been seen worldwide in a variety of print and electronic media for editorial and advertising purposes. His photographs have also appeared in Fine Gardening, Horticulture, Flower Magazine, Business Alabama, The New York Times Magazine and numerous Condé Nast, Hearst and Meredith magazines and books, as well as in print media for the New York Botanical Garden and The Brooklyn Botanic Garden.

Joe is one of the contributing photographers for the book SOUTH by Wendy Pollitzer (Lydia Inglett Ltd. Publishing, 2014).  He is the sole photographer for 3 books: Garden Guide: New York City (The Little Bookroom, 2002 and the 2010 Revised edition published by W.W. Norton & Company) and The Flower Gardener’s Bible (Storey Books, 2003), which was awarded a Garden Globe Award in 2004 by the Garden Writers Association (GWA) for Best Photography for a Garden Book and most recently The Year Round Vegetable Gardener by Niki Jabbour published by Storey Books.

  • Joe does that disarming cross-eyed thing during ironic situations, which he must have learned from a dog or a Muppet.
  • Joe doesn’t forget you after the shoot is over–he checks in later just to see how you’re doing.
  • Joe has an all-seeing eye like Sauron in The Lord of the Rings, only without the evil.
  • Joe canoed rapids on Georgia’s Flint River for a photo shoot and didn’t drop any camera gear into the water.
