About Joe
Joe’s photographs have been extensively featured in books, magazines and electronic media. From 2003 to 2008, Joe was a Senior Staff Photographer at Southern Living Magazine. His images are published worldwide in a variety of print and electronic media for editorial and advertising purposes. His photographs have also appeared in The New York Times Magazine, Business Alabama, Fine Gardening, Horticulture, Flower Magazine, and numerous Condé Nast, Hearst and Meredith magazines and books, as well as in print media for the New York Botanical Garden and The Brooklyn Botanic Garden.
He has provided on going pro bono photography services for TedX Birmingham and Birmingham Landmarks Inc. In 2016 he completed a nearly 2 year project documenting the restoration of the historic Lyric Theatre in Birmingham. Since 2017 he has shot for Les Dames d’Escoffier International.
He is a member of ASMP, The American Society of Media Photographers, GardenComm, formerly GWA, Garden Writers Association and AMP, Alabama Media Professionals.
In 2015 De Sciose produced a gallery exhibit of large black & white fine art photographs of The Moss Rock Preserve now in the permanent collection of the City of Hoover, Alabama.

- Likes to shoot plants, flowers, gardens, skylines, big cities, small towns, beautiful women, ugly guys, marching bands, food, restaurants, hotels, buildings, close-ups, wide shots and photos that tell a story, make you laugh and make you want to know more.
- Joe prefers Nikon and loves the Lens Baby.
- Joe likes perfect sharpness and impressionistic blur.
- Joe’s laid-back attitude helps people relax, which makes them photograph better.
- Joe does that disarming cross-eyed thing during ironic situations, which he must have learned from a dog or a Muppet.
- Joe doesn’t forget you after the shoot is over–he checks in later just to see how you’re doing.
- Joe is a vegetarian, since 1991—go figure!
- Joe grew up in Denver, has lived in Madrid, Barcelona, Brooklyn, Manhattan and now enjoys being a photographer in Birmingham, Alabama.
